Royal Academy of Engineering - London
Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme (GEEP)
On the 27th of April 2023, I had the privilege of being a guest speaker at the
Royal Academy of Engineering GEEP
2-day event in London. The talk was given in the Al Qasimi room. I had the opportunity to meet wonderful student and graduate engineers and tell them about the successful actions I used to develop my career as a late entrant into the engineering industry (I graduated my aircraft maintenance engineering degree at 38!) If you would like to know some key actions I took to build up my career, simply contact me at

"MY WAY IN" CAMPAIGN 2019
Earlier this year (2019), I was delighted to be asked by the UK Department of Work & Pensions if I would give a brief statement of my experience getting into engineering as part of the newly launched "My Way In" UK Gov campaign to encourage more people into work, including science, technology, engineering and maths careers, and to coincide with International Women's Day on March the 8th 2019.
Indeed I was more than happy to contribute, as I firmly believe that an engineering career is a career of choice for both men and women, young and old.

LAUNCH OF "WES 50" CAMPAIGN
In 2016, in association with The Telegragh newspaper, the Women's Engineering Society launched the " WES50 " campaign to honor the UK top 50 women engineers under 35. While I am not under 35, I was happy to be included in the launch feature in the business pages of The Daily Telegraph on 31st March 2016. I am always very keen to encourage women, and actually anyone, to achieve their goals. It would be fantastic to see more women engineering in the UK.
INAUGURAL WOMEN IN DEFENCE UK AWARDS 2016
In 2016, I was shortlisted for the inaugural Women in Defence UK Awards 2016, Special Category Award, for my STEM work encouraging young people to chose an engineering career. The awards were created by PA Consulting of London. The winners were outstanding women role models from all over the Defence sector. The event was very well organised. You can see the shorlist and winners for 2016 here.

Synopsis: This book presents the findings of a survey that analyzes a unique set of data in science and technology and provides a clear and simple synthesis of heterogeneous databases on the gender gap in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) setting, helping readers understand key trends and developments. The need for more women in innovative fields, particularly with regard to STEM-based innovations, has now been broadly recognized. The book provides insights into both the education and employment of women in STEM. It investigates how the gender gap has evolved among STEM graduates and professionals around the world, drawing on specific data from public and private databases. As such, the book provides readers an understanding of how the so-called ‘leaky pipeline’ operates, and of how more women than men drop out of STEM studies and jobs by geographical area.
